SalsAmigos Start-up Weekend
This series of workshops, fit to a weekend, is designed to help a group of interested adults and teens start up a SalsAmigos group.  The workshops introduce the dance form, provide important and insightful help in teaching SalsAmigos (this is SalsAmigos pedagogy), provide syllabi and basic materials to support the program, a teaching party so everyone will experience SalsAmigos fun.
Saturday Morning
SalsAmigos:  Dancing Health and Happiness (1 hour A/V talk)
Sam does a lively video/image/music accompanied talk on how SalsAmigos serves youth and adults in contemporary American society.  Clear and engaging ideas about how much of American education is ineffective and even destructive to youth and their learning; how American attitudes toward dancing may be severely limiting and misleading; and how SalsAmigos offers new programs, insights, and possibilities.
SalsAmigos Introduction (2 hours for teens and adults)
A fast-paced introduction to the basic moves and patterns of SalsAmigos style rueda de casino dancing, this workshop introduces the dance and demonstrates SalsAmigos’ approach to teaching the dance.
Saturday Afternoon
SalsAmigos Teacher Training Level I (2 hours for training teachers)
Since SalsAmigos is as much the approach to teaching as it is the dance, this workshop is essential for all prospective/training teachers.  A practicum for learning and practicing teaching SalsAmigos levels I with the objective of preparing teachers to teach the first eight SalsAmigos classes.  We will go through the syllabus providing teachers practice teaching the moves.   Criticism and guidance will be constantly provided.
SalsAmigos Organization (1 hour workshop)
A presentation on how to organize, market, and fund a SalsAmigos program.  It includes sample flyers and suggestions on how to get SalsAmigos in the community and school curricula.
Saturday Evening
SalsAmigos Party (an evening of dancing)
A party for teachers, students, family, and friends to introduce SalsAmigos as a social form and how it is the basis for a party.  Teachers in training will have the opportunity to introduce the basics to those new to the form, while Sam will provide new instruction to those teens that did the “SalsAmigos Introduction” workshop.  Then we all enjoy an hour of dancing together.
Sunday Morning
SalsAmigos Teacher Training Level II (3 hours for training teachers)
A practicum for learning and practicing teaching SalsAmigos levels II with the objective of preparing teachers to teach the second eight SalsAmigos classes.  We will go through the syllabus providing teachers practice teaching the moves.   Criticism and guidance will be constantly provided.
